The Frog teams up with Saatchi & Saatchi X to develop a global POS application to launch Arthur’s Day for GUINNESS®

We are very excited to announce that with the world’s leading shopper marketing network Saatchi & Saatchi X, we have launched a global project for GUINNESS® in the lead up to the famed Guinness Arthur’s Day.

Earlier this year, The Frog, along with their partner DNA, were approached by Saatchi & Saatchi X in London to scope out a point-of-sale application for GUINNESS®, which was to be distributed to publicans worldwide in preparation for the yearly Arthur’s Day celebrations. We sat down and investigated several methods of implementing “THE Amp” tool which took significant research as the tool needed to be an offline portable mechanism which was capable of storing, capturing and distributing data for the publicans to be able to customise their point-of-sale templates to promote the event.

This was a challenging exercise as we had to battle with the offline and portable limitations of storage, but we came up with a plausible solution which, thanks to HTML5, allowed the data to be captured in the client’s browser through a portable webserver. In addition, generating “on-the-fly” high quality print resolution customised PDF point-of-sale documents was quite a detailed process. but with lengthy developing, we streamlined the process to offer the end user the most user-friendly experience.

The tool interface was essentially an offline website with loads of interactive elements such as data capture, videos, interactive walk-throughs, countdown clocks, point of sale template creation and tips. Saatchi & Saatchi X’s design team designed the initial interface template and we then went to work to roll this out across all the areas of the site before going to work on the guts of the application.

The end result culminated in a dozen versions of the tool – which were required to accommodate for the various time-zones that it was being deployed to in order to tie in with the correct countdown clock – in a variety of languages. The tool was being distributed via USB stick globally across the GB, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, The Caribbean and Australasia.

Needless to say this has been an exciting and intricate process and our first collaboration with Saatchi & Saatchi X has been nothing short of excellent. A very personable and professional team to work with and we look forward to further collaborations in the future.

We’re very proud of the final result, and the only downside is we can’t show you the work as it’s deployed offline to the client, but we have been informed that GUINNESS® are extremely happy with the final result – which puts a big smile on our faces. Well done to all involved! :-)
